My heart is going to explode if I see one more nephew in a costume. What a cutie! Sanne is going to freak out when she finds out that Phelan is poultry just like her. : )

The top picture is now my desktop background. It's so great!! Where are you going to take the kids to show off their costumes?

Oh, you know it's my desktop photo too! Phelan is such a superstar. :D The kiddos will make a showing at a Halloween party in Menomonie, then again in Minneapolis for some trick or treating at Gaga & Boompa's with great grandma too. The chick, pancake and cowboy will be quite the entourage.

Um, where is my credit for being chicken wrangler?

Cheerios, people. Cheerios. They'll do whatever you want.

I recognize the breed on the far right, but what are the other breeds of chickens seen here?

Agneta and Michael - welcome and thanks for the feedback! I'd love to know how you found our blog.

Michael - those are Red Star chickens as well as "Speckle," who has become a bit of a mascot here at Lostview Farm. My sister will have to remind me what breed Speckle is.

Hi Michael. I'm thrilled that someone wants some chicken information, because I can't talk enough about the poultry. We do indeed have Red Stars, which are a wonderful breed, but also some of what you see in the photo are Rhode Island Red/Sussex crosses. They lay giant brown eggs. The others are Barred Rock/Leghorn crosses and I have no idea what Speckle is. She seems to be her own special breed. Thanks for asking!

Hi Becca and Charis,

Thanks for the chicken info. I was turned on to this blog by Connie Mcdonald who is a former teaching partner of Jay's and my mother-in-law.
