The First Snow

We got our first dose of "real" snow last night - fluffy and beautiful and great for sledding and general snowy rambunctiousness.
A day in the snow wouldn't be complete with some tears, whether from an icy face-plant, cold fingers, or the result of crazy shenanigans like this:
It doesn't look so bad here, but what I didn't catch on film was the teetering sled perched atop that icy snow-dirt pile, with boys barreling down.

Charis brought out the horses for some effortless sledding fun. Well, effortless on the people's part. Colby broke a nice winter sweat.
The holiday spirit is now in full swing...at least in my mind it is. Ready for the tree, the cookies, the lights and more. Ellis and I might even try our hands at sugar plums this year (which, as Ellis guessed, aren't actually made with plums! But they look divine, nonetheless).Crack open the egg nog!

Oh my goodness, those sugar plums look yummy! Tell me if you think they could do without the almonds/almond extract when you make them, would you? Maybe if I substituted vanilla extract and just skipped the nuts? Without eggs, we're halfway there to being able to make that recipe "allergy-friendly" for our household. And they look SOOOO good!

Love your snow pictures. Merry, merry!

Catherine - I know, those sugar plums look amazing! You should google sugar plums - I found many different versions of the same idea. Maybe you could substitute hazelnuts for almonds? Or do they need to be completely nut free? Either way, I'm sure the conconction of all those other ingredients would be very tasty. Happy holidays to you!

So festive!! That slide looks steeep! Maybe it's the angle. Looks like you are all having a grand 'ol time. If only it could feel this special when it's this snowy in march (or april)!

Yes, Christa, that slide is as steep as it looks! Much less scary when there's a pile of snow to fall into at the bottom.
