Mad props to my sis-in-law, Barbara, who photographs our farm most artistically!

Phelan turns one and other farm adventures...
Phelan turned one this week! Somehow this day:
...seems like ages ago. Phelan, who was a smaller baby at birth than Ellis, is now one of the larger toddlers I've ever known. 27 pounds and 32 inches, this one! Crawling like a mack truck and teetering on his feet, always trying to keep up with everyone else. We celebrated with banana cupcakes...which he really enjoyed tasting then throwing on the deck.
And though it looks like we just have fun around here, the amount of work to be done each day is just one of the excuses for our seldom updated blog. Still, here are a few snaps of the good times...
Golden
We Newhouses kicked off the summer with a Memorial Day trip to Golden Lake in the U.P. It was extraordinarily warm weather and the lake was even perfect for swimming - unheard of in May! It was a much needed break from the busy-ness at the farm. Our gardens at home are already enormous, thanks to an early spring, but it's also made for a very, very busy season from the start.
It was also a great meeting spot with Nathan & Barbara, Sanne and niece on the way...an ideal place to reconnect and relax. Well, I relaxed and hung out with the kids (wait, do those two things even go together?) while my parents and the guys worked on cleaning and building a new dock.
A beautiful way to welcome summer.
