Your Vote Counts!

We have written in the past concerning our blog being considered a forum and not just a diary update, so now it's your turn to get involved!

Charis and I have decided to take this forum idea to a new and important level; as you all know, our child is due any day now. We do not know the gender of our child, but we have two names picked out and we simply cannot decide which is best. Since we believe gender "rules" are often influenced by cultural and social upbringing (if she is a girl she can still chop wood, spit, build decks and scratch herself, and if he is a boy he can still cook, wash dishes, put on mascara and wash his hair) we have chosen names that would work for either:

A = Sunflower Rainbow Jicama

B = Allium Lycopersicon Basilicum (aka the Latin names for garlic, tomato and basil)

Thanks for reading and we look forward to a tallying of the votes.

How about Vegas Calvin Chester? Or if she's a girl, Vegas Calvina Chesty?

Brian! Nice to hear from you! How are you these days!?

Everyone else: though Jay asked for votes on A or B, I'm thinking Stephanie is going to win for her write in votes. She also suggested "Bacon Lettuce Tomato" via personal email. Yum!

Okay, I'm starting to realize that many of you think that Jay could potentially be serious about this post. Yes, I know we all expect a more slapstick-y style of humor from our friend Jay, but he came up with this one all by himself, giggling the whole time - it's true! As I just wrote in an email to Christa, even if he were serious, as much as I adore my husband, I don't love him enough to name our child after a vegetable.

I do, however, have a little lump in my throat thinking about how nice you all have been tip-toeing around this subject, probably thinking Jay a little mad for wanting our baby to share a title with a caprese salad but hating to burst his bubble. I've got nothing but love for you people!

I am serious now.
Stephanie rules!
Forget my literary and music classical education. The child will not be named Coltrane, Mozart, Cannonball, Billie, Arthur, Cordelia, H2O, Alyosha or Fyodor
BUT Bacon Lettuce Tomato.

Since you all did not vote and democracy is not in place in our beloved country - Bacon Lettuce Tomato Collins

Wow...I'm going to have to wield my power more often. Now I wish I had been a little more creative with my name suggestions.

The other night Nathan turned to me and said "I just can't picture a boy named Sunflower" and while we will love our niecephew no matter what . . . I'm glad that I fell for the joke and that it was a joke. BLT on the otherhand. . if I wasn't a vegetarian with morning sickness I'd be all over that one. Love you guys!
