Just wanted to publicly broadcast my passion, affection and devotion to my husband - for his generous farm contributions, his fierce sense of environmentalism and community-driven life, for his laugh, for his gardening obsession, for his music focus, for the sacrifices he's made and continues to make to have moved here, for his humongous love.

I feel your pain. The problem with American society today is we don't want the true solutions to the dilemas we help create. We want a pill, a gun, or the money to "FIX" them.
Adding more police won't cure crime anymore than digging more graves will stop war.
Have you ever read John Taylor Gatto? If not pick up "Dumbing Us Down" or "A Different Kind Of Teacher". He writes about the lack of community education in America,where our Draconian system comes from and why(to serve corporate America) and how to create your own community. But it's sounds like you've done a hell of a job doing just that.
So chin up! You're miles ahead of the pack.
